ADB provides US$96.5 million for Vietnam food safety
Date :  02/07/2009
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) pledged US$96.5 million to implement a project on safety and quality improvement of Vietnam's commercial food crops and biogas development, the Vietnam news agency cited a local newspaper reporting Wednesday.

An agreement to this effect was signed here on Tuesday by the State Bank of Vietnam and representatives of the ADB.

Of the money, US$95 million will be used to help Vietnam improve the safety and quality of commercial food crops.

The rest US$1.5 million, from the ADB's Special Fund, will be used as a technical assistance grant for the country to develop the national biogas program.

The project, which includes improving agricultural crops and building biogas plants, is expected to generate 1.4 million jobs in post-production work for local farmers in 16 beneficiary localities, said the newspaper.
